Nelson In Common Update December 22, 2021

Above: Off Duty

A One Horse Open . . .

Val Van Meier was scouting the Village, hoping to catch a glimpse of an early reindeer, when what to her wondering eyes did appear?

This amazing horse, stationed in front of Bert Wingerson’s barn! Many will recognize this as a Wendy Klemperer original. As it turns out, the horse is only hanging out in Nelson for a few days, before being shipped off to its new home in Montana.

In case you missed it last week, Nelson (specifically Nelson School) has the opportunity to have another Wendy Klemperer sculpture take up permanent residence in town. Read about the Nelson School Otter Project .  .  .

Christmas Eve in Nelson

It’s been on the calendar, but here’s a update: the Christmas Eve Service at the Nelson Congregational Church is going to be held outdoors. For those who can’t be there in person, the service will be Zoomed. You can read more details here . . .

Dormancy in the Garden

Sunlight on an ice patch …..fireworks, to me

Linda Singer’s monthly Musings of A Nelson Gardener is often a nice blend of practical advice and the kind of philosophical wisdom that gardening tends to nurture. For those who are a little anxious about how we will endure the long weeks of winter (isn’t that all of us?) her December article provides some comforting perspective, accompanied, as always, by amazing photos. Enjoy it .  .  .

Christmas Shopping and More Right Here in Nelson

At various times we’ve been promoting the Nelson In Common Bulletin Board. This functions as a separate website, and provides, as its name suggests, information about stuff for sale, help wanted, services provided, and more. Admittedly the site got off to a rocky start with some technical issues, but we believe we’re now up to speed, and ready to accommodate more robust participation. It just might be the place you’ll find that last minute holiday gift, or, after the New Year, a way to offload that ugly sweater that Aunt Lucy gave you (she lives in San Diego and will never know). Explore the Bulletin Board.

Click on the bulletin board to get there.

Since this bulletin board is on the web, we don’t need thumb tacks to hold up the items. This gives it the real New Hampshire spirit –  no tacks!
