2 large sweet potatoes
2 large red apples
6 tablespoons melted butter or fat
1 teaspoon salt
1 /2 cup maple sugar
Boil potatoes, peel and cut lengthwise. Peel and cut apples lengthwise. Sauté the apples until nearly soft. Arrange alternate sliced of potato and apple in greased baking dish; pour over syrup and bake 20 minutes.

This must have been baked in a wood-fired oven or some sort of stove without a thermostat. I wonder today at what temperature this delicious-sounding pie would bake? It sounds like it would make a nice addition to a Thanksgiving meal.
